In the winter of 2018, the life of 28-year-old Mario Rashad Edwards of Covington, Georgia, was tragically cut short in what authorities described as a calculated and violent act. On December 21st, his body was discovered inside a vacant apartment on College Street in Forest Park, where he had been shot at least once. The grim discovery launched a homicide investigation that would soon unravel a sinister plot involving three individuals.
Investigators determined that on December 19, 2018, Mario Edwards was lured to the abandoned apartment by Ashanti Leandrea Dorsey, then 21, Cameron Jones, and Kiera Williams. Upon his arrival, the trio immediately launched a brutal assault on him. Edwards was beaten with a firearm by Williams and tased by Jones. The assailants then robbed him of his wallet, phone, cash, and car keys. Following the robbery, Dorsey shot Edwards in the stomach, inflicting a wound that would lead to his death from internal bleeding. The three then fled the scene, leaving Edwards to die alone in the vacant residence. His body would not be found for another two days.
The investigation into Edwards's murder quickly led authorities to the three suspects. Kiera Williams, an 18-year-old, was also implicated in a separate, fatal shooting of another man just days later, a crime for which her 20-year-old boyfriend, Cameron Jones, was also charged. Ashanti Dorsey, who became the first woman to be placed at the top of Clayton County's 'Most Wanted' list, was eventually apprehended.
In November 2024, Ashanti Dorsey stood trial for her role in the murder of Mario Edwards. A Clayton County jury found her guilty, and she was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus an additional five years to be served consecutively. The successful prosecution brought a measure of justice for the violent and senseless death of Mario Edwards. Cameron Jones was also implicated in a plot to have two deputies murdered during a transport to court, for which he faced additional charges.
