On a Tuesday evening, the last day of August in 2021, a mother's world was irrevocably shattered. Paulette Smith returned home from work at approximately 6:00 p.m. to the Laurel Pointe Apartments in Forest Park, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. She discovered her 22-year-old son, Johnathan McWilliams, unresponsive in his bedroom, having been shot multiple times.
