In the winter of 2023, the life of 16-year-old Semaj Christopher Floyd, a male from Savannah, Georgia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of December 4th, Floyd and 20-year-old Omarion Whitfield were found deceased at the intersection of Amaranth Avenue and Perth Street, having both sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The discovery was made by Savannah Police Department officers who were responding to a Shotspotter alert in the area around 6:20 p.m.
The investigation into the double homicide led to the indictment of three individuals: Harold Roberson, Vazquez Lisan Coleman, and Joshua Reddick. Authorities allege that the motive behind the killings was an attempted robbery of Floyd and Whitfield. The case drew further attention due to the fact that two of the suspects, Roberson and Coleman, were out on bond for a separate 2021 murder at the time of the incident.
Following the shootings, Roberson and Coleman were apprehended in late 2024, while Reddick was captured on April 15, 2025, by U.S. Marshals. All three men have been indicted on charges including felony murder. The tragic loss of the two young men, particularly a teenager who would have been celebrating his high school graduation and 18th birthday, left their families and the wider Savannah community in deep mourning. The trial for the three accused men was scheduled to begin on September 29, 2025.
