In the winter of 2023, the life of 18-year-old Savahna Rashona Chamblee of Soperton, Georgia, was tragically cut short. On December 19, she was brought to the Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia by a private vehicle, suffering from a single gunshot wound. The hospital staff promptly alerted law enforcement, and an investigation into the shooting began.
Due to the critical nature of her injuries, Chamblee was airlifted to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah for more intensive care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away on December 21, 2023. The Vidalia Police Department, in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, launched a homicide investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to the young woman's death.
The investigation led authorities to identify a primary suspect, 18-year-old Joshawn Devonte Troupe of Lyons. On March 27, 2024, Troupe was arrested by the Vidalia Police Department in connection with Chamblee's death. He was subsequently booked into the Toombs County Detention Center and was denied bond.
Further legal proceedings followed, and a Toombs County grand jury indicted Troupe on multiple charges related to the death of Savahna Chamblee. The indictment included charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and criminal damage to property in the first degree. The case against him is now set to move through the judicial system.
