In the winter of 2022, a domestic dispute in Vidalia, Georgia, escalated into a tragic double homicide, claiming the lives of 42-year-old Pamela Harden and her 24-year-old daughter, Latorey Harden. The events unfolded on January 6th, when Vidalia Police responded to a call about a domestic dispute at a residence on East 5th Street. Before officers could arrive, a second 911 call reported a shooting at the same location.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered both Pamela and Latorey suffering from gunshot wounds. Latorey Harden was pronounced dead at the scene. Pamela Harden, in critical condition, was rushed to Memorial Health in Savannah, where she succumbed to her injuries. The initial investigation pointed to a lone shooter who had fled the scene in Pamela Harden's blue 2021 Nissan Rogue.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the case, and a suspect was soon identified as 27-year-old Joshua Magual Sanders of Birmingham, Alabama. A manhunt ensued, and Sanders was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Flagstaff, Arizona, on January 12, 2022. Pamela Harden's stolen vehicle had been recovered in Birmingham, Alabama, days earlier. Sanders was extradited back to Georgia to face charges related to the murders.
In April 2022, a Toombs County grand jury indicted Sanders on a 15-count indictment that included charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. During the trial, it was revealed that Latorey Harden was holding her infant son when she was shot. Pamela Harden had reportedly received a call that her daughter was in trouble and was shot multiple times when she arrived to help. Sanders testified that he acted in self-defense, a claim the jury rejected. In May 2023, after less than 30 minutes of deliberation, the jury found Joshua Sanders guilty on all 15 counts. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
