On December 29, 2023, Deputy Sergeant Marc McIntyre, a 55-year-old veteran of the Spalding County Sheriff's Office, was fatally shot while responding to a domestic disturbance and welfare check call in Griffin, Georgia. McIntyre and another deputy were dispatched to a home on Vineyard Road, near Deason Street, after a 911 call from the wife of 57-year-old Todd Harper, a military veteran, who had threatened her.
