On February 28, 2024, a domestic dispute at a Lithonia, Georgia apartment complex escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 25-year-old Treyvon Vallery. The male victim, a former college football player at Albany State, was at the Belle Vista apartments with his girlfriend, 25-year-old Nina Shaw, when the argument began.
During the course of their altercation, Nina Shaw placed a call to her father, 47-year-old Royricas Shaw. His arrival at the apartment on Camellia Lane intensified the conflict. An argument between Royricas Shaw and Vallery quickly turned violent. According to police reports, Royricas Shaw fired a weapon at Vallery but missed. Vallery, in what his family describes as self-defense, returned fire and struck Royricas in the hip. In the moments that followed, Nina Shaw produced a gun and shot her boyfriend, killing him.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene around 2:50 p.m. and found Treyvon Vallery deceased from at least one gunshot wound. Shortly after, Royricas Shaw appeared at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Both he and his daughter, Nina Shaw, were subsequently arrested in connection with Vallery's death. They have both been charged with malice murder and are being held in the DeKalb County jail without bond.
