In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Albany, Georgia, the life of 29-year-old Markel Harper, an African American male, was tragically cut short. On March 6, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., a burst of gunfire shattered the night in the 1000 block of Radium Springs Road. Harper was in a vehicle with 28-year-old Jaboris Terrell Cato when another car pulled alongside them and unleashed a volley of shots. A bullet struck Harper in the chest, and Cato was hit in the buttocks. Both men were rushed to a local hospital, but Harper succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, with the Albany Police Department making its first arrests the very next day. Jason Lamar Gaines, 30, and 16-year-old Janarrian Oliver were taken into custody and charged with murder, tampering with evidence, and conspiracy. A third individual, 36-year-old Sir Robert Moss Jr., was also arrested and charged with tampering with evidence and obstruction. As the case unfolded, a woman named Tytianna Isaac was initially charged with murder as a party to the crime, but this was later reduced to a misdemeanor count of obstruction after it was determined she had withheld information from investigators.
The search for justice did not end there. Authorities identified a fifth suspect, 20-year-old Kameron Rycabon Holiday, who was sought on warrants for tampering with evidence and conspiracy. Later, police sought the public's help in locating another person of interest, 24-year-old Malik Ladin Frazier, for questioning. Frazier was eventually apprehended and charged with murder, marking the fifth arrest in connection with the fatal shooting.
