Eighteen-year-old Claudarius Ceasar, a male with a passion for basketball and dreams of stardom, was fatally shot on March 18, 2023. The incident unfolded in the 1500 block of Whiting Drive, where he resided with his girlfriend, Shamya Haynes.
On that fateful night, what began as a conversation about relationship troubles took a grim turn. Haynes had reportedly contacted a male acquaintance to discuss her relationship with Ceasar. Shortly after, Ceasar went outside to smoke, and a single gunshot broke the night's silence. He was struck in the neck and succumbed to the fatal wound.
The investigation into Ceasar's death quickly led authorities to focus on two individuals. The Albany Police Department issued arrest warrants for both his girlfriend, Shamya Haynes, and a man identified as Michael Jerome Jackson. Haynes was taken into custody and faced a series of serious charges, including felony murder, two counts of tampering with evidence, and two counts of theft by receiving stolen property. Jackson, who was initially named a person of interest, had a warrant issued for his arrest on a charge of malice murder.
As the homicide investigation progressed, another individual was implicated in connection with the case. Kenneth Kitchen was arrested after being found in possession of two stolen firearms, one of which was a patrol rifle taken from a police vehicle. While these charges were separate from the homicide itself, they arose during the course of the investigation into Ceasar's death. Kitchen was charged with two counts each of tampering with evidence and theft by receiving stolen property. He was subsequently transported to the Dougherty County Jail, where Haynes was also being held.
