On April 7, 2024, at approximately 1 a.m., Atlanta police officers responded to a double shooting in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, near the Vine City Chick-fil-A. Upon arrival, they discovered 46-year-old Howard Boone III deceased from gunshot wounds. A second victim, a 34-year-old man, had been transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. The Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Unit initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
