In the early morning hours of July 5, 2015, a dispute that began inside an Atlanta gentlemen's club on Marietta Street tragically escalated, spilling into the street and ending in fatal violence. Mark Turner, a 37-year-old African American male, was shot and killed in the incident which occurred around 3:30 a.m. outside the Stilettos Gentlemen's Club in the northwest part of the city. Another man, Brandon Brewer, was also critically injured in the shooting, suffering a severe head injury.

Responding officers found Turner at the scene with a fatal gunshot wound from what was described as an assault rifle; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The violence of the act and the use of a high-powered weapon in a public space drew significant media attention. Investigators quickly began to piece together the events of that morning, leading them to identify a suspect.

A few days after the shooting, with his image circulating in news reports that included surveillance footage of the incident, 39-year-old Marquise Holliman turned himself in to the Atlanta police homicide office. Holliman, also an African American male, surrendered to authorities after seeing himself on television.

Following his surrender, Marquise Holliman was arrested and charged with the murder of Mark Turner and the aggravated assault of Brandon Brewer. He was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail. Friends and family of Mark Turner mourned his sudden and violent death, remembering him as a beloved member of the community. His funeral service was held on Saturday, July 11, 2015, followed by his interment at Lincoln Cemetery.
