On the evening of May 28, 2022, Wyman McLorin Boyd Jr., a 27-year-old African American male, was fatally shot in Atlanta, Georgia. The incident took place at approximately 9 p.m. in the parking lot of the Camp Creek Marketplace on Carmia Drive. Boyd had just left a barbershop in the shopping center where witnesses say he had been in good spirits, laughing and joking with friends moments before the shooting.
As Boyd exited the barbershop, he was ambushed and shot.
Atlanta Police Department investigators believe the shooting was not a random act of violence, but rather that Boyd was the intended target of the attack. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Atlanta Fire Rescue. The shooting was one of three to occur in southwest Atlanta in less than a 48-hour period, leaving the local community shaken and concerned about the presence of violence. Boyd was a father to a young son and was reportedly working to make positive changes in his life for his child's sake. His family described him as a warm, friendly, and generous person who was deeply loved.
In the months following the shooting, the Atlanta Police Department continued its investigation. While surveillance footage of the incident was recovered, the quality was reportedly poor, making it difficult to identify the assailant. However, in October 2022, investigators identified a suspect in the case, Reginald Parham. A warrant was subsequently issued for Parham's arrest on the charge of murder. As of the latest available information, authorities are still actively searching for Parham and are asking for the public's assistance in locating him.
