In the late summer of 2004, a young man named Nicholas Bershaun Foster, aged 26, was seriously injured in an incident on August 29th. The altercation proved to be fatal, and Foster, a resident of Millen, Georgia, succumbed to his injuries on September 6, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. His death launched an investigation that would soon lead to an arrest and a search for justice.
The investigation into Foster's death identified a suspect, Tosha Williams, who also resided at the same Acorn Avenue address as the victim. In November 2005, a jury found Williams guilty of multiple charges in connection with Foster's death, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and involuntary manslaughter. The trial, held in Jenkins County Superior Court, brought to light the events that led to the untimely death of the 1996 graduate of Jenkins County High School.
Following the conviction, in December 2005, Tosha Williams was sentenced to a term of 20 years in prison. The sentence stipulated that 12 of those years were to be served in confinement, with the remaining eight years to be completed on probation. The conclusion of the legal proceedings provided a measure of closure for the family and friends of Nicholas Bershaun Foster, who was remembered in his community as a hardworking and brilliant young man with a memorable smile.
