In the early morning hours of November 6, 2020, a dispute outside an Atlanta nightclub tragically cut short the life of 26-year-old Dayvon Daquan Bennett, a male known professionally as the rapper King Von. The Chicago native was in Atlanta, Georgia, when an argument erupted between two groups of men at approximately 3:20 a.m. outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge. The altercation quickly escalated into an exchange of gunfire between the two factions.
It was during this initial shootout, before law enforcement intervened, that King Von sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Following the shooting, King Von was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The official cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds. In total, the incident left two people dead, with 34-year-old Mark Blakley also losing his life, and several others wounded. Two off-duty Atlanta Police officers, who were working security at the lounge, along with a nearby on-duty officer, confronted the individuals involved and exchanged gunfire. None of the officers were injured in the encounter.
The day after the fatal shooting, Atlanta police announced the arrest of a suspect. Timothy Leeks, a 22-year-old also known as Lul Timm, was taken into custody while at Grady Hospital being treated for a gunshot wound sustained during the incident. He was subsequently charged with the felony murder of King Von. Two other men, Johnny Harris and Kevin Jones, were also taken into custody in connection with the event. With Leeks's arrest, the Atlanta Police Department considered the homicide case of Dayvon Bennett to be closed.
Timothy Leeks was released from Fulton County Jail in March 2021 after posting a $100,000 bond. In a significant development, the felony murder charge against Leeks was dropped in August 2023. His attorney confirmed that the case against him was dismissed before it was ever indicted.
