In what was a tragic turn of events, Lawrence Roberts Jr., a 25-year-old male from Atlanta, Georgia, was fatally shot on the very day he was released from jail. The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, March 18, 2019, at a house party in the 1800 block of Newman Place in northwest Atlanta.
Having been released from jail that morning, Roberts had informed his mother, Kathy Jackson, that he was going to a party across the street and would be back.
His parents had plans to take him to the Gateway Center the following morning to help him turn his life around. However, he never returned from the gathering. Atlanta police officers responded to a call at approximately 10 p.m. and found Roberts at the scene with a gunshot wound to the head.
A suspect, identified as 20-year-old Tahli Williams, remained at the location and was taken into custody by the police without incident. He was subsequently arrested on a charge of murder and transported to the Fulton County Jail. According to law enforcement, it appeared that the individuals involved were acquainted with one another, though the specific motive for the shooting was not immediately clear. The investigation into the shooting was ongoing.
