In a tragic and senseless act of violence, a young life was cut short on a Monday afternoon in Atlanta. Nasir Fitzgerald, a 20-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on March 21, 2022. The incident that led to his death began as a road rage altercation, tragically escalating to the point of gunfire. Fitzgerald was a passenger in a vehicle when the dispute occurred.
The shooting took place on Joseph E.
Lowery Boulevard, an area that had unfortunately been the scene of another murder just months prior. Responding to the incident, Atlanta police discovered Fitzgerald with a gunshot wound on Forsyth Street. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
In a surprising turn of events, the suspect, William Warren, contacted the Atlanta Police Department and admitted his involvement in the shooting. Warren, 39 years old at the time, was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of serious charges. These included one count of murder, two counts of felony murder, and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Additionally, he was charged with one count of criminal damage to property in the first degree and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Following his arrest, William Warren was held at the Fulton County Jail. A judge denied him bond, ensuring he would remain in custody as the legal process moved forward.
