On March 28, 2023, a deadly shooting occurred in the parking lot of a Food Mart located along Metropolitan Parkway in southwest Atlanta, resulting in the death of 51-year-old Derrick Williams, a father of six. Atlanta police were called to the scene and found Williams shot; he was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but did not survive his injuries.
