Summary based on 7 sources
In the early morning hours of June 29, 2024, 31-year-old Travante Turner, a Black male also known as 'Threat,' was found shot to death inside a southwest Atlanta apartment on Peyton Place. The incident, which occurred around 3 a.m., is believed to have started with an altercation outside the apartment complex that escalated into gunfire. While Turner did not reside at the complex, he was discovered inside one of the units. Police suspected the shots were fired from outside the complex, but it was unclear if the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle.

Travante Turner's death was believed to be the result of a gang-related drive-by shooting. His murder is thought to have triggered further violence in the city. Just days after his death, a retaliatory shooting on July 2, 2024, resulted in the deaths of two 13-year-old boys, Lamont Freeman and Ja'Kody Davis. This subsequent shooting led to the arrest of seven individuals on various charges, including murder and aggravated assault. One of the individuals arrested in connection to the teenagers' deaths was identified as Travante Turner's cousin.

In the wake of Turner's death, a documented gang member, King Travis, was arrested in early August 2024 after leaving Turner's funeral. Travis, a member of the Y.F.N. criminal street gang, was stopped for an illegal U-turn, and a search of his vehicle yielded seven guns, prescription pills, and marijuana. Investigators believe Travis and others were armed at the funeral out of fear of being targeted by a rival gang. While this arrest was linked to the aftermath of Turner's funeral, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested directly in connection with the murder of Travante Turner.
