On a Saturday evening in May of 2015, a domestic argument in southwest Atlanta escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 49-year-old Michael A. Preston Sr. The shooting occurred on May 16th on the 3000 block of Highbury Trail, right in front of the home of his girlfriend, Temeka Jones.
Responding to a call around 6:30 p.m., Atlanta police discovered Preston suffering from a gunshot wound.
Initial reports varied, with one indicating he was found in the street and another stating he was located inside the residence. Despite the differing accounts of where he was found, the outcome was the same: Michael Preston was dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly identified the incident as a domestic dispute that had turned violent. The preliminary investigation suggested that 34-year-old Temeka Jones had shot her boyfriend during the course of their argument, resulting in his death. Jones was promptly arrested at the scene and charged with murder.
Following her arrest, Temeka Jones was booked into the Fulton County jail. During a subsequent court hearing, she was denied bond. The investigation into the shooting was set to continue to uncover the full details of what transpired between the couple leading up to the deadly confrontation.
