On a cold morning in Atlanta, Georgia, the life of Leon Rondelle Kaymore III, a 29-year-old African American man affectionately known as 'Big Legend,' was tragically cut short. On January 18, 2025, at an apartment complex on Cheshire Bridge Road NE, Kaymore was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The Atlanta Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
The investigation swiftly led to a significant break in the case. Later that same day, police responded to a call about a man trespassing at a CVS store located just a quarter-mile from the scene of the crime. An officer at the scene recognized the man, 29-year-old Malik Jones, as matching the description of the suspect in Kaymore's murder. Jones was taken into custody, and authorities reported that they also recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the homicide.
Malik Jones was subsequently arrested and booked into the Fulton County Jail. He is facing multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Following his arrest, Jones is being held without bond as the legal process moves forward. The community, meanwhile, mourned the loss of Kaymore, a Savannah native who was remembered for his vibrant personality. Funeral services were held to celebrate his life, and he was laid to rest at Magnolia Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
