In the Summerhill neighborhood of Atlanta, on the morning of January 15, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace at the intersection of Hank Aaron Drive and Ormond Street. When the violence subsided, 46-year-old DaJuan Jackson, a Black male, was found with a fatal gunshot wound. Another man was also injured in the incident and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office later confirmed Jackson's identity.
DaJuan's brother, Demetrius Lester, arrived at the scene to the devastating news. He described his brother as a man with a 'good heart' who came from a 'good family.' Lester painted a picture of a generous soul, saying, 'He is the type of person, if someone is hungry or needs to borrow some money, he will come out of his pocket and give them his last.' Jackson is survived by a stepson, a sister, and his brother.
The Atlanta Police Department has stated that the shooting appeared to stem from a dispute that escalated. However, they have not released any further details about the nature of the argument or the events that led to the gunfire. As of now, no information regarding any suspects or arrests in connection with the death of DaJuan Jackson has been made public. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, leaving a family to grieve and a community to await answers.
