In the summer of 2025, the life of 18-year-old Darrien 'DJ' Jackson was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex. On the evening of June 30th, officers responded to a call of a person shot at the 33Ninety Apartments on Fairburn Road. There, they found Darrien with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
The young man, born on May 17, 2007, was remembered by those who knew him as a remarkable kid with a great smile and a respectful nature.
The initial investigation into the shooting left authorities working to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter. For months, the case remained under investigation. Then, in early February of 2026, a significant development brought a measure of hope for justice to Darrien's grieving family and community. A collaborative effort between the Atlanta Police Department's SWAT team and the United States Secret Service led to the arrest of a primary suspect.
On February 2, 2026, law enforcement executed a search warrant and took 22-year-old Willie Felder into custody. Felder now faces a string of serious charges in connection with Darrien's death, including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. At the time of his arrest, Felder also had an outstanding warrant for simple battery and criminal trespass. The arrest marked a crucial step forward in a case that had left a community mourning the loss of a young life.
