In the summer of 2024, a tragedy unfolded in Augusta, Georgia, that cut short the life of Ceon Ulmer. On July 2, 2024, in the front yard of a residence in the 1800 block of Warren Street, the 38-year-old male was discovered unresponsive, having sustained at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite any attempts to render aid, Ulmer was pronounced dead at the scene, marking another life lost to gun violence.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation into the suspicious death. Their efforts quickly identified a suspect in the case. The same day that Ulmer's body was found, authorities named 40-year-old Joshua Wadley as the individual they were seeking in connection with the fatal shooting. This announcement began a manhunt that would last for several months as investigators worked to bring the suspect to justice.
After a protracted search, a breakthrough in the case came on the evening of Monday, January 13, 2025. Through the collaborative efforts of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office Crime Suppression Team and the U.S. Marshal's Southeastern Fugitive Task Force, Joshua Wadley was located and apprehended. He was taken into custody without incident on the 700 block of Forest Ridge Place. Following his arrest, Wadley was formally charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, bringing a measure of progress to a case that had left a community searching for answers.
