On February 25, 2021, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting near a car wash at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Parkway East. Upon arrival, they discovered 27-year-old Detraio Deshawn Whorton inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Whorton was transported to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
