In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Carrollton, Georgia, the life of 32-year-old Mario David Lopez Gomez, a Hispanic male, was cut short in a burst of gunfire. The incident, which police believe was the result of a drug transaction that turned violent, unfolded on November 10, 2024, in the parking lot of The Reserve Carrollton Apartments, an off-campus housing complex for University of West Georgia students. Gomez, a resident of Snellville, was discovered by Carrollton police officers responding to a call of shots fired at approximately 10:30 p.m. He was suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed to Tanner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators quickly identified two suspects in the fatal shooting: 20-year-old Markeese Jarvis Clark and 22-year-old Maurice Williams, both from Marietta. A white car was seen speeding away from the apartment complex shortly after the shooting. Police pursued the vehicle, which eventually stopped near the hospital. The driver then fled on foot. One of the suspects was later found at Grady Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds sustained during the altercation that led to Gomez's death.
Both Clark and Williams were taken into custody and are facing murder charges. They are being held at the Carroll County jail. According to officials, neither the victim nor the suspects were students at the University of West Georgia, and none of them resided at the apartment complex where the shooting occurred. The investigation into the deadly encounter is ongoing.
