In the fall of 2016, the life of 23-year-old Tyler Ford, a male student at the University of West Georgia, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of October 26, Ford was fatally shot at the entrance of his apartment on Lovvorn Road in Carrollton, Georgia. The incident unfolded when Ford answered a knock at his door, leading to a physical altercation that ended with a gunshot. His three roommates, who were present in the apartment at the time, heard the commotion and promptly called 911.
Investigators with the Carrollton Police Department quickly suspected that a robbery was the motive behind the violent act. Evidence found at the scene, including cash and a small quantity of marijuana near Ford's body, seemed to support this theory. In the initial stages of the investigation, law enforcement had few leads and appealed to the public for any information that could help identify a suspect who was believed to have fled the scene on foot. The university community was shaken by the event, and counseling services were offered to students and faculty.
The investigation gained momentum, leading to the arrests of three individuals in connection with the murder. Two of the suspects were fellow University of West Georgia students, 18-year-old Seniya Asford-Conner and 18-year-old Arpege Jackson, who was reported to be Ford's ex-girlfriend. The third individual taken into custody was 18-year-old Shadeed Dunson from Fulton County. All three were charged with murder. Authorities believe the trio went to Ford's residence with the intention of robbing him, with the underlying motive possibly connected to narcotics. Further investigation revealed that the suspects might have also been involved in another attempted robbery that occurred earlier the same day near the university campus.
