In the early morning hours of a Saturday in late August 2023, the sounds of gunfire shattered the peace in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Third District arrived at the 2000 block of 10th Street, Northwest, around 4:06 a.m., they discovered a grim scene. An 18-year-old Black male, Keni Edwards of Southeast, D.C., was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Services were dispatched to the location and quickly transported Edwards to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life. Tragically, despite their efforts, the young man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. At the scene, another adult male was found with a graze wound, though his injuries were not life-threatening and he was treated on-site.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is actively investigating the fatal shooting of Keni Edwards. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with his death, and authorities have not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting.
In an effort to bring those responsible to justice, the police department is appealing to the public for assistance. A substantial reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for this homicide. The authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward and share what they know.
