In the early evening of Wednesday, April 12, 2023, tragedy struck inside a McDonald's in Northeast Washington, D.C., ending the life of 19-year-old Andre Wallace, Jr. The incident unfolded in the 1600 block of Benning Road, Northeast, a little after 6:00 PM. Wallace, a resident of Northeast, D.C., was inside the fast-food establishment when he was fatally shot by an unknown assailant.
Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Fifth District responded to a report of the shooting at
approximately 6:07 PM. Upon their arrival, they discovered Andre Wallace Jr. inside the restaurant suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel were also at the scene and found no signs of life. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement began a search for the person responsible for Andre Wallace Jr.'s death. The Metropolitan Police Department issued a description of a suspect, described as a Black male wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and possibly a black sweatshirt wrapped around his waist. The man, who was said to have twists in his hair, was reportedly armed with a handgun.
The investigation into the homicide is ongoing, and as of the immediate aftermath, no motive for the shooting had been publicly identified. The Metropolitan Police Department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Andre Wallace Jr. They have asked anyone with information about the case to come forward and contact the police.
