Nasrat Ahmad Yar, a 31-year-old father of four, was fatally shot in Washington, D.C. on July 3, 2023. Yar, who had served as an interpreter for the U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan, was found inside his vehicle on the 400 block of 11th Street Northeast, near D Street Northeast, after police responded to a report of a shooting just after midnight.
