On a Saturday morning in Washington, D.C., the sound of gunshots shattered the peace of a residential street. On April 15, 2023, in the 1300 block of W Street, Northeast, 20-year-old Amonte Wood, a male resident of Northeast, D.C., was found suffering from gunshot wounds. The incident occurred at approximately 10:43 a.m. in the Brentwood area.
Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Fifth District responded to reports of the shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Amonte Wood at the scene. Despite the immediate response from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Wood showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the location. His body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are actively investigating the case. As of the days immediately following the shooting, no arrests had been made, and police had not released any information regarding potential suspects. The department has offered a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities appeal to the public for assistance.
