On July 1, 2022, at approximately 2:33 PM, the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 800 block of Yuma Street, Southeast, Washington, DC. Upon arrival, officers discovered 17-year-old Dennis Simms suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Simms displayed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.
