In the late hours of a Friday night in Washington, D.C., tragedy struck for a young man from the local community. On May 12, 2023, Romello Hammond, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot in the 900 block of Varney Street in Southeast D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department reported that they received calls about the sound of gunshots in that area at approximately 10:35 p.m.
