On a summer evening in Washington, D.C., 36-year-old Black / African American male, Alonzo Marshall, was shot and killed. The incident occurred at approximately 5:51 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, in the 2200 block of Savannah Street, SE. When first responders from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene, they found Marshall with no signs of life and he was pronounced dead.
His body was subsequently taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The tragedy was compounded by a hauntingly similar event that had struck the Marshall family just over a year prior. In April 2022, Alonzo's brother, Clayton Marshall, was also fatally shot in the very same block of Savannah Street. Their mother expressed her profound devastation over losing two sons to gun violence in the same location and pleaded for justice.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is actively investigating the killing of Alonzo Marshall. As of the day following the shooting, no arrests had been made in connection with his death. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible. The department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for tips that result in the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator or perpetrators.
