In the early hours of a Tuesday in the late summer of 2023, the life of 40-year-old Alando Pugh, a lifelong resident of Washington, D.C., was irrevocably altered. On August 15th, at approximately 1:51 a.m., officers from the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the unit block of Galveston Place, Southwest. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene: Alando Pugh, a male, lay wounded with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.
Emergency services rushed him to a local hospital, where he fought for his life for four days. Despite all lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
Alando Pugh was a man with deep roots in his community and a passion that had defined much of his life. At the young age of 13, he discovered a love for boxing, training at the Sugar Ray Recreation Center. His dedication and talent in the ring led him to become a champion, a journey that saw him travel to various states to compete. Beyond his athletic pursuits, he was a father and an employee of the Bates Trash company, a job he reportedly loved. His unexpected death left a void in the lives of his extensive family, including his mother, siblings, and numerous children.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is actively investigating the shooting as a homicide. In an effort to bring those responsible to justice, the department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in his death. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the shooting of Alando Pugh. The investigation remains ongoing as his family and community await answers.
