In the late evening hours of Sunday, November 19, 2023, the life of 18-year-old Treyvon Wilson, a Black male from Northwest, D.C., was tragically cut short. Seventh District officers were dispatched to an apartment building on the 2300 block of Good Hope Court, Southeast, around 8:21 p.m. following a report of an unconscious person. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene; Wilson was inside the building, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite any efforts to help, he was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of his death, Wilson was just weeks away from his 19th birthday.
For nearly two years, the investigation into Wilson's death continued. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch took the lead on the case, seeking assistance from the public to gather information that might lead to an arrest. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the homicide. The community was left waiting for answers as detectives worked to piece together the events of that fatal night.
A significant development in the case came on Monday, November 3, 2025. On that day, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 23-year-old Martell West of Southeast, D.C. West was apprehended pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant and has since been charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed in connection with Wilson's death. While an arrest has been made, the motive for the shooting and whether the suspect and victim knew each other have not been disclosed by the police as the investigation remains ongoing.
