In the early moments of a Friday morning, just after midnight on August 7, 2015, the life of 37-year-old Charles Burton was tragically cut short on a street in Southeast Washington, D.C. The stillness of the night was broken by the sound of gunshots, a grimly familiar urban percussion that would herald a scene of violence and loss.
