In the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 3, 2024, a distressing discovery was made in Southeast Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Sixth District responded to a call about a person down in the 3600 block of Fort Dupont Drive, Southeast, at approximately 7:19 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a young male suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as 14-year-old Irving Laboard, a resident of Northeast, D.C.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and despite their life-saving efforts, the young teen succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The case is being investigated as a homicide by the MPD's Homicide Branch. Laboard's death was one of two teenage fatalities in the District within a 33-hour period, sparking concern about youth violence in the city.
As of early April 2024, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. The Metropolitan Police Department has appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Irving Laboard's death, offering a reward of up to $25,000. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
