In the pre-dawn hours of September 16, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of downtown Washington, D.C., leaving a 35-year-old Black/African American man, Ifeanyi Maximus of Bladensburg, Maryland, dead. The fatal encounter unfolded at approximately 4:32 a.m. in the 1700 block of Rhode Island Avenue, Northwest, an area typically characterized by office buildings.
Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Maximus unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel from DC Fire and EMS arrived at the scene, but after finding no signs of life, they pronounced him dead.
The investigation into the homicide is ongoing, with police searching for three male suspects. According to authorities, the individuals were all dressed in black clothing and wore ski masks.
They were reportedly last seen fleeing the area in a white vehicle. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Ifeanyi Maximus, and no specific suspects have been publicly identified.
