In the Woodland neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C., a mother's world was shattered by a phone call. On the afternoon of Monday, October 21, 2024, while she was at work, Donna Clark learned that her 21-year-old son, Malkijah Clark, was lying dead in the street in front of their home. The male victim, known to friends and family as Malik or Lik, had been shot and killed at approximately 12:35 p.m. in the 2700 block of Bruce Place SE.
When police and emergency services arrived, they found him with gunshot wounds, unconscious and not breathing; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting occurred on a block that has been no stranger to violence, with at least three other fatal shootings having taken place there in the preceding three and a half years. Malkijah was reportedly walking to his car when he was gunned down. The motive for the killing remains unclear to investigators. His mother, speaking through immense grief just hours after his death, wanted the world to know his name and the profound loss her family was suffering. She described her son as a father to a young son and a little girl, who would now only know him through pictures.
Malkijah was remembered as a son, a brother to five siblings, and a friend. His family described him as a go-getter with a big heart who loved the Dallas Cowboys, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his son. His mother acknowledged he could have a 'hard head,' but that his 'heart and soul is very big.'
As his family began to navigate their heartbreak and plan a funeral, the Metropolitan Police Department continued its investigation into the homicide. Authorities are searching for multiple suspects and were reviewing video footage of the incident. No arrests have been made in the case. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered by police for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.
