On July 24, 2023, police in Jacksonville, Florida, responded to a death investigation at the Blanchard Apartments located on Pullen Road in the Love Grove neighborhood. Upon arrival, they found 27-year-old Terrill Trumble, also known as T.J., dead inside an apartment. Trumble was discovered on the floor in the bathroom, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. The cause of death was initially unclear but was later ruled as suspicious.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) quickly identified James Conyers as a suspect in the case. Conyers was arrested just days after the incident, on July 31, 2023, and was initially charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. While Conyers was in jail, the JSO continued their homicide investigation, and on February 22, 2024, they upgraded the charges to include Trumble’s murder.
Trumble's family has been deeply affected by his death. His sister, Bristol Garrett, expressed relief that an arrest had been made, stating that she could finally sleep better knowing that justice was being pursued. She described her brother as a kind and hardworking person who had a lot of life ahead of him and left behind a four-year-old daughter. Garrett plans to keep Trumble's legacy alive for his daughter as she grows older.
As of the current date, James Conyers is facing charges related to Trumble's murder. His next court hearing was scheduled for February 26, 2024, to determine whether he would be on house arrest or remain in jail during his trial. Conyers currently has a $1 million bond.
