Jonnah Golden, a 19-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, was tragically shot and killed on April 23, 2016. Known affectionately as "Bugz" to friends and family, Jonnah was attending a house party in the Ortega Farms neighborhood when violence broke out. The gathering, initially intended for a small group, swelled in size as more people arrived throughout the night. Despite earlier complaints from neighbors, the party continued until fights erupted, culminating in gunfire at around 2:30 a.m.
Jonnah was struck and killed in the front yard, while another individual was also shot but survived. The shooter(s) fled the scene before police arrived.
Earlier that day, Jonnah had posted a haunting message on Facebook, expressing a sense of foreboding, though it’s unclear if he anticipated the tragic events that would unfold. Investigators have pursued leads in the case, at one point naming a person of interest, Kyon Wilkes, who was believed to have crucial information about the shooting. Despite efforts by both law enforcement and Jonnah's family to seek justice, including offering a reward for information, the case remains unsolved, and his family continues to search for answers.
This incident marked Jacksonville's 35th murder of 2016, contributing to the city's rising gun violence rates during that period.
