On a late Sunday afternoon in Waterbury, Connecticut, the life of 22-year-old Jordan Robinson was tragically cut short. The Black male was fatally shot on Kenyon Street on December 17, 2023, in what authorities have described as a robbery gone wrong. Around 4:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a person shot and found Robinson lying unresponsive in the road with gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation into Robinson's death revealed a plot to rob him during a prearranged marijuana deal. Robinson, a former standout football player for several local high schools and the University of New Haven, was sitting in his car with his girlfriend when they were ambushed. One of the assailants shot Robinson in the chest. Despite his injuries, Robinson managed to exit his vehicle and fire his own registered handgun at the fleeing suspects before collapsing.
Four individuals have since been arrested in connection with the homicide. The suspects were identified as Jeremy Rivera, Christopher Ortiz, Jlonn Coles, and Elijah Middleton. At the time of the incident, Coles and Middleton were 17 years old. All four face multiple charges, including murder, felony murder, and first-degree robbery.
As the legal process unfolds, at least one of the suspects has entered into a plea agreement. Jeremy Rivera pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. The cases against the other three suspects are proceeding through the court system. Robinson's family has been present at the court hearings, remembering a young man who was not only a talented athlete but also an active volunteer in his community.
