On January 29, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the Newhallville section of New Haven, Connecticut, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Maleak Sweets. The incident was reported around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Newhall and Bassett streets, following a ShotSpotter alert and multiple calls to dispatch.
