Edgar Josue Chiche Martinez, a young Hispanic male just days away from his nineteenth birthday, was found deceased on the morning of Saturday, November 9, 2024. His body, wrapped in a comforter, had been left on the side of Pope Park Highway. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner would later confirm that the 18-year-old died from multiple gunshot wounds.
It is believed his body had been there for approximately 24 hours before being discovered.
The investigation into the untimely death of the recent high school graduate quickly led Hartford police to an apartment on Magnolia Street. This was the residence Edgar shared with his cousins, who would soon become the primary suspects in his murder. Evidence of the killing was allegedly discovered within the apartment, painting a grim picture of the young man's final moments. Investigators believe he was shot and killed inside this shared home. Family members grew worried when Edgar, known for his dependability, failed to show up for work on the preceding Thursday and Friday.

His 21-year-old cousin, Sender Soto-Veliz, and his 17-year-old cousin were taken into custody. The younger cousin, whose name has not been released due to his age, faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence. Soto-Veliz is charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence, accused of assisting his younger brother in disposing of their cousin's body.
