In the early evening of November 7, 2022, a sense of tragedy befell a neighborhood in Hartford, Connecticut. Chester Gaston, a 46-year-old Black/African American man from West Hartford, found his life abruptly ended. The incident unfolded shortly before 5:30 p.m. on the second-floor rear porch of a residence in the 100 block of Nelson Street. It was there that Gaston was discovered suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Responding to a report of a person shot, Hartford police officers
arrived at the scene to find Gaston unresponsive. They immediately began to perform life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived. He was then swiftly transported to St. Francis Hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts to save him, Chester Gaston was pronounced dead at the hospital. His death was officially ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes and Crime Scene Division.
As the investigation commenced, police indicated that they believed Gaston and the person or persons responsible for his death likely knew one another.
