In the afternoon sunshine of July 17, 2023, a violent encounter at a Sonic Drive-In in Colorado Springs shattered the day's routine and ended the life of 32-year-old Solton Heshmaty. At approximately 1:43 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a shooting at the fast-food restaurant located in the 600 block of N. Chelton Road. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Heshmaty suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them shortly after.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on July 18, 2023, and officially identified the deceased as Solton Heshmaty. While the specific cause and manner of death are pending the final coroner's report, the case is being actively investigated as a homicide. This incident marked the 16th homicide in the city of Colorado Springs for that year.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police contacted two other adult men at the scene. One of these men was also taken to the hospital for treatment of possible injuries. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Homicide Unit interviewed both individuals, who were later released pending further investigation. Although no arrests have been made in connection with Heshmaty's death, law enforcement officials have stated that all individuals involved in the incident have been accounted for and that there is no ongoing danger to the community. The investigation remains active, and authorities are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
