In the winter of 2023, a gathering of friends in a Denver suburb took a tragic turn, ending the life of 29-year-old Miguel Angel Barboza. On the evening of December 10th, Barboza was hosting a party at his home in the 2700 block of Ingalls Avenue in Edgewater. Among the attendees was 31-year-old Kyle Valdez.
At some point during the party, Valdez produced a pistol and shot Barboza in the head. The sudden act of violence plunged the gathering into chaos.
Other partygoers wrestled with Valdez in an attempt to disarm him. In the struggle, the gun discharged again, injuring two other people. One person was shot in the hand, and another in the leg.
Following the fatal shooting, Kyle Valdez was arrested and faced legal proceedings. In a resolution to the case, Valdez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the death of Miguel Barboza, as well as two counts of second-degree assault for the injuries sustained by the other two individuals. He was subsequently sentenced to 43 years in prison for the murder charge and an additional 16 years for the assault charges.
