On the morning of the Fourth of July in 2007, the holiday's celebrations were pierced by a grim discovery in a Denver park. Members of the Denver Police Department were dispatched to the area of East 39th Avenue and Oneida Street following a report of a body being found. There, they discovered the victim, who was later identified as William Johnson, a 29-year-old Black male.
