On a Saturday afternoon in Colorado Springs, the life of 62-year-old Leonard Thomas Johnson, a Black/African American male, was cut short by violence. The incident unfolded on March 9, 2024, at a townhome complex situated in the 2600 block of Stonecrop Ridge Grove, near the intersection of South Circle Drive and Hancock Expressway. Responding to a call at approximately 3:30 p.m., police officers arrived to find Mr.
Johnson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the first responders at the scene, the injuries proved to be fatal, and Leonard Johnson was pronounced dead. The El Paso County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity. Mr. Johnson had been a resident of Colorado Springs for over two decades. The Colorado Springs Police Department is treating the case as a homicide, marking the city's sixth of the year.
