In the early hours of Monday, January 10, 2022, a violent altercation at a bar on North Circle Drive in Colorado Springs turned deadly, claiming the life of 33-year-old Sergio Suarez Gonzalez. The Colorado Springs Police Department received a 9-1-1 call at 12:05 A.M. reporting a serious assault at the establishment. Upon their swift arrival, officers discovered Gonzalez deceased inside the bar.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit took charge of the investigation and
determined that Gonzalez had suffered a fatal gunshot wound during the disturbance. Following an investigation that included processing the crime scene and conducting numerous interviews, authorities identified a suspect. The El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, and officially confirmed Sergio Suarez Gonzalez's identity.
On the same day as the autopsy, law enforcement agents with the CSPD Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 25-year-old Marco Barcelo. He was taken into custody without incident on a warrant for Murder in the first degree and was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Jail. The death of Sergio Suarez Gonzalez marked the third homicide investigation in the city of Colorado Springs for the year 2022.
